ARTIST STATEMENT: Virgin Warrior

Virgin Warrior is a lifetime project that came into focus in the year of 1998 when two things happened. I said to myself, "I need to find a new way to photograph myself". The vision I received was to swing my camera by tying it to a tree branch so I could freely move while the shutter was open. The second event, a couple of months later, was I awoke one morning with this sentence in my brain clearly saying, "The Virgin Warrior Leads No Pure Angels." I wrote the words down and became intrigued by what this could mean visually.

The work is semi-self portraits and I am beginning to structure the photographs according to season and elements; Summer, water; Autumn, earth; winter, fire; and Spring, air. The project has moved into photographing others and slowly continues to expand as I travel around the world wherever Spirit tells me to go.
